The Orthopedic Approach for Massage Therapists: Posture and Gait

The Orthopaedic Approach for Massage Therapists: Posture and Gait

“The Orthopaedic Approach for Massage Therapists”, created by Dr. Lanre Salami, wouldn’t be complete without Posture and Gait Analysis! This one-day course isn’t offered anywhere else.

This seminar is designed to educate the participants on the importance of gait and postural evaluation in designing a management strategy for encountered musculoskeletal dysfunction that can be successfully managed with soft tissue mobilization techniques and massage therapy. Postural and gait evaluation is essential in order to determine a primary dysfunction from a secondary compensatory adaptation that the client develops as a result. This allows the practitioner to be able to address the primary cause directly thereby guaranteeing a successful correction of the dysfunction. A good posture and gait evaluation will reveal to the therapist what is, what was and what is going to be about the client’s posture and gait.

Gait:

  • The participants will understand the importance of gait and postural evaluation in the management of most common musculoskeletal dysfunction.
  • The participants will be understanding of the various aspect of the gait cycle and the clinical importance of normal cadence.
  • The participants will be understanding of abnormal gait patterns and the various neurological dysfunctions that may precipitate such.

Posture:

  • Participants will understand the definition of normal and abnormal posture
  • The participants will understand the development of the human posture and factors that affect postural development
  • The participants will understand encountered spinal deformities that affect human posture.

The participants will also be able to incorporate this skill as part of the documentation and reporting of the client’s progress.
