We are a not for profit association that has quietly been providing an option for massage therapists with 2200 hours of education that do not want to undergo the stress and cost of additional testing in order to join an association.
We support the regulation of the massage industry in Alberta, and a minimum educational requirement of 2200 hours from a recognized massage school.
The Remedial Massage Therapists Association (RMTA) has been incorporated since January 1, 1977.
The RMTA stands for the Remedial Massage Therapists Association. Definition of remedial "is the intention to improve or restore the body back to health."
We have currently transitioned from a completely volunteer driven organization to providing a fully operational office and staff that can be reached during regular business hours. This allows us to increase service to both members and prospective members, and frees up our volunteers to promote the benefits of the RMTA to the public and future members.
Our association is active on a number of internal and external committees at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels of government.
We are one of 4 associations that represent massage therapists recognized by Alberta Health and Wellness.
Membership in the RMTA is automatically recognized by insurance companies, as we do not accept members with less than 2200 hours of training from a recognized school, nor do we recognize experience in lieu of education.
Our members practice in Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Yukon.
